To describe how to skimboard, it can be broken down into three parts: getting to the wave, catching the wave, and riding the wave. First to get to the wave, you have to get on your board and have enough speed to reach the wave. To do this, you must run as fast as you can with the board, drop your board, take one step, and get on back foot then front foot. Then to maintain speed, you can either pump by pressing down on the front of the board many times and very fast or you can do something that is called a hydroplane. To hydroplane, you turn sideways and crouch. This makes the glide out to the wave much smoother and you will maintain speed better. Next you have to catch the wave. To do this, you must turn really fast when you get to the wave so your back is to the wave. After you are turned, start pumping (process described earlier) to catch the wave. Finally you ride the wave. To ride the wave all you have to do is stay on the wave by riding parallel to it and maintain enough speed to stay on it. If it is a well crashing wave, it will barrel around you as you get close to the end of your ride.
